The Primary Maths and English Workshop is for children in Reception and Years 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. All work is linked to a theme; it is developed to challenge each child’s ability and also to help reinforce any areas they are struggling with, while having fun at the same time.
Poetry, story writing, gathering information, comprehension work and building character descriptions are all examples of the English work covered. Working with money, telling the time, reading co-ordinates on a map and fractions & decimals are some of the Maths topics that have been covered on previous workshops. The workshop often develops cross-curricular links with other subject areas such as Geography, History and Art.
Previous themes have included Pirates, the Rainforest, Chocolate, Africa and the World Cup. The children work with a carefully chosen, qualified primary school specialist in a small group setting, capped at 8 in size, and the work can be both table-based and practical.
The emphasis is to develop children’s knowledge in a fun and varied way so that they don’t feel it is work at all!
What to bring: All resources are provided; your child needs only bring a drink and a snack each morning. If your child is staying for the sports afternoon, they will need to wear suitable sporty clothes and bring a packed lunch.
Workshops take place during school holidays and weekends.
